- On May 12, 2008, Torger Hougen was rushed to the Anchutz Cancer Center at University Hospital in Denver with a white blood cell count of 253,000. The medical team led by Dr. William Tse diagnosed him with type AML leukemia. In October 2008, Torger underwent a peripheral stem cell transplant. This blog documents what we hope will be his full recovery and the return to a healthy life.

TODAY IS DAY 365
This blog is documenting the first 100 days post-transplant. It's called "Life In A Box" because that term applies in a lot of different ways--including Torger's confinement to a fairly small hospital room initially, and then the requirement that we have to live in a hotel near the hospital for the 100 days immediately post-transplant. But mostly "life in a box" refers to the box of stem cells that arrived with our nurse, Dana, from somewhere in the U.S. October 13, thanks to an anonymous 29-year-old female donor. That little box is the key to Torger's future.

Actually, I saw that episode. Marcia ran off with the guy playing Ben Franklin and the whole gang was just so mad!
